Last year, the government shutdown (the longest in US history) left Joshua Tree in a state in which it'll take 200 to 300 years to recover. During the shutdown, the park still remained open but with very limited staff. There were only eight rangers left to enforce a park the size of Rhode Island with over 25 different entrance points into it. Due to this, the park was left very vulnerable to unwatched visitors leading to some damage that is irreparable. Once the park reopened, the rangers and other park workers came back to park filled with damaged trees, graffiti, ruined trails, and much more. Once the lockdowns are over, we'll be working with the staff from the park to help remove graffiti from its iconic rock formations.
